Mobility Basics

Get to grips with Mobility

In the general gym environment ‘do some mobility’ generally means spend (if you feel like it) two or three minutes at the end of your session doing some simple stretches, and then in a vague, generalised way, not focusing on recovery or rehab.

Remaining supple and mobile throughout our lives not only increases our quality of life right now but will also increase the number of years we are able to enjoy it. It reduces injury, improves sports performance and enhances the generation of power through moment.

Mobility in SugarWOD

On Monday through to Friday every week we provide you with the very best in mobility and rehab. In the ‘CFI – Supplement’ track within your SugarWOD app you will find a daily mobility session provided by ‘The Ready State’ and the guru of CrossFit mobility, Dr Kelly Starrett. This is a fantastic resource that if used each day is the perfect balance to the WODs you complete at the Box.

For you to achieve what you want, either at the Box or in your life outside the Box, muscle or joint pain, stiffness or tight muscles can restrict us. If can make us miserable and feel depressed.

With using the ‘Mobility Supplement’ you can carry out all the basic mobility yourself under the direction of one of the best Physical Therapists there is. The result, better WOD results, less injuries and a happier life all round.

Getting Additional Support

Sometimes we need that little extra, a bit more than we can achieve ourselves.

If you have any injury or pain that is persistent, or if you’re currently struggling with a certain aspect of mobility / flexibility and it’s not improving then don’t wait till it stops you from training. Be pro-active and view Osteopathy and Sports Massage as maintenance, keeping your body in full running order to get the best out of your fitness program. Most importantly, a full report is created, and working together with Bridge to Health CrossFit Ickenham integrate your  rehab into your training.

We also run a Sports Rehabilitation Therapy Clinic onsite. Come and talk to us for more information about the group clinic or one-to-one appointments.

Mobility Balls: Simply put, this is just a hard ball. If push comes to shove and you have one laying around a good old cricket ball is just as good. Bulldog Gear produce a good range of mobility balls in a range of sizes and shapes. RockTape package a nice set of two mobility balls, called ‘RockBalls’ These are sold as a pair, with one large, spikey ball and a smaller smooth ball.
